The Floyd Country Store is renowned as a place to experience authentic Appalachian music, and is home to a group of musicians, flatfoot dancers, and cloggers who are carrying on the tradition of their families who’d pass the time playing music and dancing together. Everywhere they could these folks would gather with their friends and families from their front porch to the neighbor’s kitchen. In the 1980’s Folks in Floyd took to coming out to the General Store and began the Friday Night Jamboree tradition that continues today.
You will find a unique and quirky collection of merchandise at the country store. Just like the old days, the store stocks items that serve our local community, and special things our customers have asked for. Our shelves are filled with a wide variety of items chosen with simple country living in mind. You can find enamelware, pie dishes, cookie cutters, and rolling pins along with hardwearing linens, organic dishtowels, eco-friendly cleaning products, and the kind of toys and games you remember playing at Grandma’s house. And you can pick up books on farming, country cooking, music, crafts and local history. There is a clothing section featuring work wear and casual wear from Carhartt, Woolrich, Columbia, Roper, Pointer, Hatley and Rosie’s alongside a collection of American made hats, socks, belts, suspenders and jewelry.
We like to ‘buy local’ so we feature arts, crafts, preserves, soaps, lotions, music and books made by folks in Floyd and the surrounding areas. Local music and dancing permeates the store. You can find a wide selection of CDs and DVDs of our traditional music, including many hard to find items by our regional artists.
If you don’t find what you need in the store just ask. We are constantly adding new items that are good to have and hard to find. Shop Online for a selection of favorite items from our store including: local music, hats and tee shirts, local arts and crafts, books, and souvenirs. If you don’t see it there, give us a call or email, and we will do our best to help you get what you need.
